Year 2016 has come to an end, let us review ForNGO’s 10 major events.

ForNGO provides registration service for overseas non-governmental organizations



Law of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of Activities of Overseas Non-Governmental Organizations within the Territory of China will be implemented on January 1, 2017, which brings revolutionary changes to those overseas NGOs conducting activities in China. Since most overseas NGOs are not familiar with relevant Chinese laws, many have difficulty in regulatory compliance when trying to legalize their activities within Chinese territory. In order tackle the problem, and to accomplish our mission to provide legal services for NGOs, ForNGO begins to provide registration services for overseas NGOs.


ForNGO is always the very first to response with professional legal services when there comes changes. This indicates the foresight of ForNGO in legal support and legal research. In the future, ForNGO will continue its study in nonprofit laws and keep providing high quality services.

ForNGO graded as 3A Social Organization



ForNGO has passed the 3A grade evaluation by Shanghai Municipal Bureau of civil affairs in 2016, which means that ForNGO has met the supervisor department’s requirements of standard operation and has gained approval by relevant authorities. ForNGO will keep forward and fully apply itself in the future.

ForNGO participated in China Charity Fair and jointly undertook Shanghai Philanthropy Partnership Day 



The Charity Fair and Partnership Day are two major events in the field of nonprofits. ForNGO had a presentation at the Charity Fair and jointly undertake the 6th Shanghai Philanthropy Partnership Day with several organizations. As the organizer, ForNGO has witnessed the spectacle on the Partnership Day. 


This is the first time for ForNGO to cooperate with the government to undertake a large-scale activity. During the event, ForNGO published Charity Law 80 Q&A on interpretation of Charity Law and has received recognition by many nonprofit organizations. Moreover, the salon series organized by ForNGO was popular on the Partnership Day, hence improve ForNGO’s reputation among nonprofit organizations.

ForNGO establishes formal partnerships with Fudan University Human Rights Research Center and School of Philanthropy, SYSU



In March, 2016, ForNGO has reached an agreement with Fudan University Human Rights Research Center. Both parties promise to promote the research on human rights. In August, 2016, ForNGO has signed an agreement with School of Philanthropy, SYSU to ensure a long-term cooperation on nonprofit legal study and legal services for NGOs. 


The partnerships are not only strong combinations but also integrations of resources in the field of nonprofit research.

ForNGO establishes research department with growing member of full time lawyers



Four full time lawyers has joined ForNGO in 2016. Their responsibility is to conduct legal research, provide legal training and propose advice on legislation. The growing number of full time lawyer has contributed to the development of ForNGO.


Our researchers are a great fortune to ForNGO. Their transition from part time to full time turn into a strong, growing power of ForNGO. Moreover, this transition is a significant step for the professionalism in legal services for NGOs.

ForNGO successfully held Private Foundation Parallel Forum—Here comes Charity Law, what shall the private foundations do? 





On November 23, 2016, China Private Foundation Parallel Forum—Here comes Charity Law, what shall the private foundations do? was held at Shanghai Oriental Conference Center. The forum was held by ForNGO to discuss solutions for the private foundations after the enforcement of Charity Law.


This was the first and last private foundation parallel forum since the idea “private foundation” will become a history. The forum has attracted extensive attention among foundations. During the forum, there were over a hundred participants in the conference room set for no more than 50 people, many audience stood by the hallway. ForNGO’s sub-forum was no doubt the most popular parallel forum.

Board chairman of ForNGO becomes Gingko Fellow



On November 12, 2016, Gingko Foundation revealed its 2016 Gingko Fellows. 17 entrepreneurs was on the list. Board chairman of ForNGO, William Lu has become one of the Gingko Fellows. 


William Lu is an “untypical” legal professional. He graduated from Fudan Law School as a legal service volunteer and later become the founder of ForNGO. William Lu hopes to establish a platform for more young legal professionals to join the field of nonprofits to support the development of nonprofit business.

ForNGO receives funding from Dunhe Foundation

On November 27, 2016, the final result of “Dunhe Seed Fund Program” was revealed in Hangzhou. ForNGO has become one of the 20 nonprofit organizations to be supported by Dunhe Foundation. ForNGO will continue to provide legal services for NGOs and promote Chinese culture through our legal services.


Dunhe Foundation has become the third major foundation to provide funding for ForNGO after Ai You Foundation and Gingko Foundation. This is no doubt an appreciation and huge support for the work of ForNGO.

Measures for the publicity of information on social organizations in Shanghai Municipality (for Trial Implementation) drafted by ForNGO is now implemented


On June 6, 2016, Measures for the publicity of information on social organizations in Shanghai Municipality (for Trial Implementation) drafted by ForNGO was officially implemented. ForNGO focuses on nonprofit legal research, and has participated in legislation in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Guangzhou. 


This is the first time for ForNGO to be directly authorized to participate in legislation. ForNGO has committed to provide legal services for NGOs for four years.

ForNGO successfully held ForNGO Forum


From August 8 to August 12, ForNGO held the 4th ForNGO forum. The topic of the forum is “Innovation, Compliance, Development”,more than 20 big shots from the government, academic and nonprofit circle were invited to discuss nonprofit and law. 



The competition of the 1st Young Nonprofit Lawyer Camp was held during the forum. 16 teams, 46 people from TJU, FDU, SJTU, ECUPL and SHUPL participated in the competition, 6 young lawyers stood out from the competition and become members of the first Young Nonprofit Lawyer camp. Together they will join ForNGO for its legal service in the coming year.


This forum is the longest, biggest forum held by ForNGO, with the first Nonprofit Lawyer Camp as well as the ForNGO LINK service. At the closing ceremony, ForNGO gave out 1600 hours of free legal service for almost 50 nonprofit organizations.


The recognition of ForNGO is greatly improved at this forum, ForNGO’s works has raised concern from more and more social organizations. Meanwhile, the Young Nonprofit Lawyer Camp brings vigor and stimulus to the nonprofit legal service, which is a brand new start for ForNGO to train young nonprofit lawyers.
